چکیده
A male child presented with recurrent respiratory infections, otitis media, and oral ulceration and was found to be neutropenic. Investigations showed hypogammaglobulinaemia with normal serum IgM and a novel deletion in the gene for CD40 ligand on his X chromosome. Intravenous gammaglobulin did not lead to resolution ofhis neutropenia; G-CSF was also necessary. (Arch Dis Child 1996; 74: 458-459)

Neutropenia associated with X-linked agammaglobulinaemia.
In a series of six cases of sex-linked agammaglobulinaemia neutropenia occurred as a presenting feature in four and during the presenting illness in the other two. The six patients all had low antibody titres and absent or low immunoglobulin concentrations with normal concentrations of T cells and absent B cells. The patients were all first seen with severe, acute infection, including septic ab...
متن کاملSuccessful management of neutropenia in a patient with CD40 ligand deficiency by immunoglobulin replacement therapy.
Hyper-IgM syndromes are characterized by profound reduction of serum IgG, IgA, and IgE levels with normal or increased concentrations of serum IgM. CD40 ligand deficiency is X-linked form of the disease, which results in a lack of immunoglobulin class switching from IgM to IgG in B cells. In addition to the recurrent infections, a number of patients suffer from neutropenia. There are some evide...
متن کاملTuberculosis in children with congenital immunodeficiency syndromes.
Patients with congenital immunodeficiency (CID) syndromes are susceptible to various microorganisms. However, relatively few CID disorders develop mycobacterial disease. We describe clinical features, laboratory findings and therapeutic outcome of children with CID who had tuberculosis disease. Medical reports of 10 patients were reviewed. Three patients had chronic granulomatous disease, two h...
متن کاملA Rare Cause of Unexplained Refractory Iron Deficiency Anemia: Unicentric Plasma-Cell Type Castleman’s Disease
Castleman’s disease (CD) is an uncommon benign lymphoproliferative disorder characterized by enlargement of hyperplastic lymph nodes with abnormal interfollicular vascular growth [1]. It is clinically categorized as unicentric disease or multicentric disease. Histopathologic variants of CD include hyaline-vascular type, plasma-cell (PC) type, and mixed form [2]. CD presents with features rangin...
متن کاملIs Routine Duodenal Biopsy Necessary for the Detection of Celiac Disease in Patients Presenting with Iron Deficiency Anemia?
BACKGROUNDS Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is one of the well recognized presentations of celiac disease (CD). According to the lack of data from our population in this regard, we determined the prevalence of CD in patients presenting with IDA to see if it is worthwhile to do a precise screening for CD in such patients. METHODS This cross-sectional study was conducted on patients referred with ...
